Electric tractor for sports fields and golf courses
The short answer
An electric tractor is well suited to the daily maintenance of sports fields, golf courses and sports parks: mowing, turf care, artificial turf maintenance, moving materials and looking after paths and car parks. Because there is no diesel engine running, you work almost silently and without exhaust fumes, even during training sessions and matches and close to residential areas.
Knegt builds three electric compact tractors: the 304G2E (45 hp), the 404G2E (55 hp) and the 504G3E (65 hp). With turf tyres, the right implements and optionally a front loader or cab, you can tailor the tractor to your facility.
Which jobs does a tractor do at a sports park or golf course?
At a sports facility, everything revolves around a playing surface that is safe, level and in good condition. That calls for recurring maintenance all year round. A compact tractor is the workhorse for this: manoeuvrable enough for narrow passages between pitches and strong enough to drive implements.
- Mowing: keeping grass pitches, roughs, verges and banks tidy, for example with a flail mower for rougher grass.
- Turf care: aerating, fertilising and rolling to keep the turf healthy under intensive use.
- Artificial turf: brushing artificial pitches and spreading the infill evenly with a trailed implement.
- Transport: moving sand, goals and other equipment with a trailer, transport box or front loader.
- Paths and car parks: levelling semi-paved paths and clearing snow and gritting in winter.
- Irrigation: towing hoses and irrigation equipment to the pitches.
Which implements are available for your situation and suit the tractor is best discussed with your Knegt dealer.
Why work electric at a sports facility?
Sports fields are used intensively, from early morning until late in the evening. Maintenance therefore often takes place while people are playing, or right next to a residential area. That is exactly where electric drive makes a clear difference.
- Almost silent: there is no diesel engine running. You can mow or drag next to a training session without disturbing players, spectators or neighbours, and you can start early in the morning.
- No local emissions: no exhaust fumes near stands, clubhouses and changing rooms. You can also store and charge the tractor indoors in an equipment shed.
- Separate motors: the electric Knegt models have a separate drive motor and a separate 15 hp hydraulic motor. This keeps hydraulic power available for your implement while you drive calmly across the field.
- Less drivetrain maintenance: no engine oil, fuel filters or exhaust system. Knegt recommends servicing every 350 hours or once a year.
- Sustainable management: for municipalities, clubs and golf courses working towards sustainability, emission-free maintenance fits their goals.
Protecting the turf: tyres, weight and driving habits
Every pass over a field leaves a mark. On wet ground, or if you keep driving the same route, this can lead to compaction and damaged sward. A few deliberate choices help limit that.
- Choose turf tyres: turf tyres have a flat tread that damages grass less than the coarse lugs of agricultural tyres. Knegt supplies turf tyres as an accessory.
- Choose a compact tractor: a compact tractor is lighter and more manoeuvrable than a large tractor. That helps limit the load on the turf, while four-wheel drive provides enough grip.
- Plan around the weather: preferably avoid driving on waterlogged pitches and vary your routes so you do not keep running in the same tracks.
- Turn wide: sharp turns on the spot can tear up the sward. Preferably turn on paths or at the edge of the field.

How to choose an electric tractor for your sports facility in 5 steps
- Map your tasks: how many pitches do you have, what surface (natural grass, artificial turf or hybrid) and which jobs do you do every week?
- Choose the power: the 304G2E for lighter maintenance at a compact sports park, the 404G2E or 504G3E if you use heavier implements or maintain large areas.
- Choose the configuration: basic, with front loader, with cab, or cab plus front loader. A cab protects you from dust, cold and rain if you also work outdoors a lot in autumn and winter.
- Plan charging: working time depends on the workload and the battery choice. You charge via a standard 230V socket or with a fast charger that takes the battery from 30 to 80 percent in about 2.5 hours. Topping up in between, for example during a break, is also possible, and an extra battery pack is available as an option.
- Look at the costs: the website lists the electric models from € 37,950 (304G2E), € 45,950 (404G2E) and € 52,950 (504G3E), excluding VAT. Financing is available through De Lage Landen (DLL). Frequently asked questions
Is an electric tractor quiet enough to mow during a training session?
An electric Knegt runs almost silently because there is no diesel engine. This lets you carry out maintenance next to a training session or match without disturbing players and neighbours. Always keep a safe distance from players and spectators.
How much power do I need for sports field maintenance?
That depends on the area and the implements you use. Knegt offers electric models with 45, 55 and 65 hp. Your dealer will help you choose the model that suits your facility.
Won't a tractor damage the turf?
With turf tyres, a compact tractor and sensible driving, you limit damage to the sward. Preferably avoid driving on waterlogged pitches and vary your routes.
Can I drive the tractor on public roads between two sports parks?
Knegt tractors are CE-approved and road-legal in Europe, so you can also drive between locations on public roads.
