Electric tractor leasing or financing: how it works
The short answer
Yes, you can buy an electric tractor from Knegt, but you can also finance or lease it. Knegt works with De Lage Landen (DLL), which provides suitable financial solutions.
Which option suits you best depends on three questions: do you want to own the tractor, how do you want to spread the costs, and do you want to claim tax relief such as the Dutch environmental investment allowance (MIA) yourself? In this article we list the options and the points to watch.
Why finance or lease an electric tractor?
An electric compact tractor costs more to buy than a comparable diesel. The Knegt 304G2E starts from € 37,950, the 404G2E from € 45,950 and the 504G3E from € 52,950, all prices excluding VAT. Options such as a Stoll front loader, a luxury cab, a plus battery or implements come on top.
That higher purchase price is offset by lower running costs: you pay for electricity instead of diesel, and an electric motor has no engine oil, fuel filters or injectors. By spreading the purchase, you set the monthly payments against those lower running costs and keep working capital free for the rest of your business.
- You do not have to pay the full amount in one go.
- You can switch to quiet, emission-free work sooner.
- You know in advance what you pay per month or per year.
Buying, financial lease, operational lease or hire purchase
The best-known ways to acquire a tractor differ mainly in who owns it and who carries the risks:
- Buying outright: you pay the full amount and own the tractor straight away. There is no interest, but it does tie up working capital immediately.
- Financial lease: you pay for the tractor in instalments and are usually the economic owner. The tractor is then on your own balance sheet.
- Operational lease: the leasing company remains the owner and you pay a fixed amount for its use. At the end of the term the tractor is usually returned.
- Hire purchase: you pay in instalments and become the owner after the final payment.
Your dealer or a quotation will tell you which options and conditions are available for your situation. Always have the tax and accounting consequences assessed by your accountant or adviser.
Leasing and Dutch tax relief: who gets the allowance?
In the Netherlands, businesses can use the environmental investment allowance (MIA), a Dutch tax scheme, when buying an electric tractor. On the 2026 Environment List of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), electrically powered mobile machinery is listed under code E 3413, with the agricultural or forestry tractor as an example and 27% MIA. Conditions apply, including an investment of at least € 25,000 excluding VAT, a fixed driver's seat from the factory and purely electric drive.
If you lease, it is important to know who can apply for the allowance:
- With an operational lease, according to RVO only the leasing company can apply for MIA and Vamil, not the customer. The leasing company can, however, reflect the benefit in the lease price.
- With other forms, it depends on who is the tax owner of the tractor. Have this checked by your accountant beforehand.
- The application must be submitted within 3 months of signing the purchase agreement or placing the order.
Outside the Netherlands, other schemes apply. Ask your dealer or adviser which incentives exist in your country.
How to compare financing and leasing in 5 steps
Do not look only at the monthly amount, but at the total over the years you will use the tractor:
- Step 1: Choose the right model and configuration, based on your heaviest implement and how long you work with it in one go.
- Step 2: Match the term to your usage. How many operating hours per year do you expect, and how long do you want to keep the tractor?
- Step 3: Ask what is included. A service is due every 350 hours or once a year. New Knegt tractors come with a two-year factory warranty, with the option of extended warranty packages.
- Step 4: Ask whether implements, accessories, a fast charger or an extra battery pack can be included in the financing.
- Step 5: Compare offers side by side, including the tax effect and what happens to the tractor at the end of the term.
Tip: the lithium battery is rated for 3,500 charging cycles, and top-up charging in between is possible. Take this into account if you are considering a long term.
Frequently asked questions
Can I finance an electric tractor from Knegt?
Yes. Knegt works with De Lage Landen (DLL) for suitable financial solutions. Your dealer can go through the options for your situation with you.
Can I claim the MIA if my tractor is on an operational lease?
No. According to RVO, with an operational lease only the leasing company can apply for MIA and Vamil. It can, however, pass the benefit on in the lease price.
How much does it cost to lease an electric tractor per month?
That depends on the model, the configuration, the term and the type of financing. Request a quotation for a calculation based on your own configuration.
Can I also finance a diesel tractor?
Ask your dealer about the options for Knegt's diesel compact tractors. The starting prices of the diesel models are lower, so the choice between buying and financing may work out differently.
